Infrastructure and Facilities
The Department is equipped with comprehensive infrastructure in accordance with NCISM MSE-2024 norms, ensuring competency-based academic, clinical, and research training. The department houses a well-maintained Teaching Laboratory for toxicological demonstrations facilitating qualitative analysis of contaminated food substances, such as detection of turmeric adulterated with Metanil yellow through standard preliminary tests. Practical training in identification of Visha and Upavisha is conducted through a systematically curated Museum displaying authenticated dry and wet specimens, preserved animal samples, mineral toxins, medico-legal weapon models, and informative charts developed by faculty and students.
For postgraduate scholars, a dedicated Research Laboratory supports dissertation work and analytical toxicology studies, including Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and allied research methodologies. The Departmental Library provides access to classical Ayurvedic texts, contemporary toxicology and forensic medicine references, dissertation archives, and digital academic resources. A dedicated PG classroom equipped with computerized teaching-learning systems, LCD projection, and audio-visual facilities promotes interactive seminars, case discussions, and research presentations. Structured clinical exposure is ensured through OPD & IPD facilities of the attached teaching hospital, with systematic documentation and logbook maintenance as per regulatory requirements.
Outreach and Extension Activities
The Department demonstrates a sustained commitment to community engagement and public health advocacy through structured outreach initiatives rooted in Agadatantra, Vyavahara Ayurveda evum Vidhi Vaidyaka. Faculty members and students actively organize and participate in awareness rallies addressing illicit drug trafficking and tobacco cessation, aligned with national movements such as Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and global observances including World No Tobacco Day. These programmes emphasize the toxicological, preventive, and medico-legal dimensions of substance abuse, promoting informed and responsible societal practices.
The Department also contributes to multidisciplinary community health camps by delivering toxicology awareness, counselling for substance use, education on food adulteration and environmental hazards, and guidance on poisoning prevention. Further strengthening its academic presence, faculty members and Postgraduate scholars represented the Department at AYUSH World Expo 2026, held at Mahalaxmi Lawns, engaging in scholarly exchange and professional networking at a national platform. Through these initiatives, the Department upholds its mandate of socially accountable education, professional excellence, and community-oriented service in Agadatantra, Vyavahara Ayurveda evum Vidhi Vaidyaka.
