Overview:

The Department of Integrative Health and Translational Research has been newly established under the aegis of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) to strengthen the scientific foundation, global relevance, and societal impact of Ayurveda.

The department is envisioned as a multidisciplinary platform that bridges classical Ayurvedic wisdom with contemporary biomedical sciences, public health, and modern research methodologies.

Recognizing the growing need for evidence-based, patient-centred, and holistic healthcare solutions, the department focuses on translating fundamental Ayurvedic principles and clinical experiences into validated, scalable, and acceptable healthcare practices.

The department oversees, or collaborates with, central research laboratories, quality testing laboratories, animal houses, and clinical research cells to conduct high-quality clinical trials.

Through integration, innovation, and collaboration, the department aims to support policy, education, clinical practice, and research aligned with national health priorities.

The department is also engaged in Teaching Research and Statistics to the UG and PG students.

To emerge as a leading centre of excellence in Integrative Health and Translational Research, advancing Ayurveda through scientific validation, interdisciplinary integration for the promotion of holistic, sustainable, and evidence-based research.

  • To promote translational research that converts classical Ayurvedic knowledge and clinical insights into evidence-based practices.
  • To foster integrative healthcare models by synergizing Ayurveda with modern medicine, life sciences, public health, and allied disciplines.
  • To strengthen research capacity and quality in Ayurveda through standardization, innovation, and adoption of contemporary research tools and methodologies.

3.1 Academic Programs & Teaching:

The Department of Integrative Health and Translational Research delivers competency-based undergraduate and postgraduate education in Research Methodology and Biostatistics, fostering excellence in education, advanced learning, and research across all levels of study.

The teaching–learning process integrates didactic lectures, case-based discussions, and experiential training, enabling students to acquire both conceptual understanding and practical competencies.

The curriculum encompasses Research design (qualitative and quantitative), Clinical trials and observational studies, Literature review and scientific referencing, Development of skills in protocol writing and Data collection, management, and analysis.

Practical Training

The department provides structured training to enable students to transform classical AYUSH concepts into testable research hypotheses, apply laboratory findings to clinical practice and translate clinical outcomes into community-level health interventions
Carefully designed practical sessions, guided by experienced faculty, incorporate demonstrations, experimental work, and interactive learning methodologies. These activities aim to strengthen critical appraisal of scientific literature, application of evidence in clinical decision-making and interpretation of research papers and standard treatment guidelines.

Research overview: The Department of Integrative Health and Translational Research is committed to inculcating a research-oriented mindset among students. It actively promotes:

  • Presentation of research at conferences and scientific forums
  • Publication in peer-reviewed journals

The department also fosters innovation, inquiry-based learning, and interdisciplinary research, thereby contributing to the advancement of integrative healthcare.

Infrastructure and Facilities

The department is supported by well-established infrastructure, including:

  • A functional Quality Control Laboratory
  • A Central Research Laboratory equipped with essential instruments and equipment

These facilities enhance competency-based teaching, hands-on training, and self-directed learning, providing an enabling environment for academic and research excellence.

  • Prof. Dr Umesh Tekawade, HOD, Dept. of Rachana Sharir was awarded prestigious Maharshi Annasaheb Patwardhan Vaidyakeeya Puraskar, BG Ghanekar teachers award 2025 on 15 January 2026. The award was given by Vaidya Khadiwale Vaidyak Sanshodhan Sanstha recognizing his contribution in the field of Rachana Sharir and Ayurved.
  • Our students from final BAMS Miss Muskan Patil and Miss Trupti Nikam won first and second prize respectively at a National Level Video Making Competition organised by BVVS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Bagalkot (Department of Kaumarbhritya). The topic was Ayurveda in Pediatric care. Both the students creatively presented references from different samhitas in the video which was very well appreciated. The students were guided by Dr. Madhura Phadtare, Assistant Professor, Department of Rasashastra Evam Bhaishajya Kalpana.
  • Dr. Pragati Toraskar, MD II year scholar of Department of Rasashastra evam Bhaishajyakalpana, BVDU College of Ayurved Pune,  has received first prize in national level e-poster competition organized to mark the National Pharmacovigilance week 2025. The competition was organized by Department of Rasashastra and Bhaishajyakalpana, Nangelil Ayurved Medical College, Kothamangalam, Ernakulam Kerala. She received guidance from Dr. Trupti Patil Bhole for the poster titled as Patient awareness for drug safety: ADR/AE - AYUSH
  • Proud Moment for Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Ayurved. We are delighted to share that our college has secured 13th Rank (A Grade) in the National Rating and Ranking of Ayurveda Colleges (2025–26) conducted by NCISM and QCI–NABET.   • Dr. Chhavi Rosha presented a paper titled Pitta Prakriti as a Predictor of Local Cutaneous Reactions in Neonates: A Post-Hoc Subgroup Analysis from a Randomized Control Trial of a Novel Ayurvedic Topical Anaesthetic and Lidocaine Prilocaine Cream During Venipuncture at National Symposium on Pharmacovigilance, Shishu Suraksha-Rashtra Suraksha (Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child). The symposium was conducted at Gwalior and jointly organized by CCRAS, RARI Gwalior (PPvC) in collaboration with AIIA New Delhi (NPvCC) on 17 and 18 Sept. 25
